Harold Williams (41CP10) Collection Collection home page

There are 21 Caddo ceramic vessels from the Harold Williams site in the Turner collections. Eight of them are likely from Middle Caddo period burials, while the others are from burials J, K, N, and S from the large Titus phase cemetery at the site. The likely Middle Caddo vessels from the site include both fine wares, utility wares, and plain wares. The fine wares are represented by a red-slipped Spoonbill Engraved carinated bowl, a large bottle with an engraved rattlesnake motif, an engraved bowl, and an engraved-punctated Washington Square Paneled compound bowl. Among the utility wares is a very large rim punctated jar, a very large brushed jar, and a large cf. Pease Brushed-Incised jar. There is also one plain bowl. The Titus phase ceramics in the collection are primarily from engraved fine wares (77%). These include Wilder Engraved jars (n=1) and bottles (n=2), several varieties of Ripley Engraved carinated bowls (n=3) and compound bowls (n=1), a Turner Engraved, var. Horton carinated bowl, a small engraved bottle, and a miniature engraved carinated bowl. The utility wares are represented by cf. Mockingbird Punctated jars (n=2), and a brushed-appliqued jar. Authors: Timothy K. Perttula, Mark Walters, and Bo Nelson
