In 1958, Ralph Nicholas, Ed German, and Robert L. Turner, Jr. excavated eight extended prehistoric Caddo burials on a floodplain rise at the Graydon Adkins #2 site. Thurmond incorrectly states that only five burials were excavated at the site. The site is on the eastern side of the Greasy Creek valley, almost directly opposite to the Graydon Adkins #1 site. Funerary offerings placed with the burials include 35 vessels, a ceramic pipe, a clay pipe stem or bead, five arrow points, three dart points (Burials 2 and 6), three polishing stones, and one abrading stone. The vessel forms and decorative styles on the ceramic vessels suggested to Turner that they came from Middle Caddo period burial features. In addition to the burial features, Thurmond reports that Nicholas et al. also tested a well-preserved midden deposit at the Graydon Adkins #2 site. Authors: Timothy K. Perttula, Mark Walters, and Bo Nelson
